Inhalation and dermal exposure are main routes of exposure to PAHs in occupational settings.[4] CAREX Canada estimates that approximately 307,000 Canadians are exposed to PAHs in their workplaces. The largest industrial groups exposed are restaurants, gasoline stations, and public administration (firefighters).
The largest occupational groups exposed to PAHs are chefs and cooks; exposure to PAHs primarily occurs in the kitchen during the cooking of foods. Other important occupational groups that are also exposed are mechanics, firefighters, gas station attendants, and other food establishment workers.
