This paper proposes a current limiting technique for V/f
controlled induction machines. The proposed method
consists of a programmable ramp and two PI controllers
which limit the stator current by changing the applied
frequency and associated voltage magnitude. The proposed
method combines operation of a programmable ramp, V/I
controller and f/I controller and successfully limits the stator
current during induction machine transients as well as in
steady state operation. The proposed limiting technique is
implemented into digital control system and experimentally
verified on the laboratory model. The experimental results
show satisfactory performance.
