In his book Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers, Kwame Anthony Appiah dismisses the idea that we need universal values in order for cross –cultural exchange to be productive. Rather, Appiah believes we simply need to take the time get used to the many cultural ideas and beliefs around us, which are more apparent than ever because of technology, especially social media. In addition, we must work to recognize the ways that we accept our own cultural beliefs as natural instead of learned. To do this, Appiah recommends engaging in a kind of never-ending conversation , rather than resorting to situational ethics that might lead us to say, ‘’you go your way, and l’ll go mine ‘’
