The number of tillers varied with irrigation regimes, N rates,and measurement times (Table 1). At the jointing stage and head-ing time, the number of tillers was most in the CF, followed bythe AWMD, and the least in the AWSD regimes when N rate wasthe same. Increase of N rates significantly increased tiller numberat these two stages. At maturity, the number of tillers showed nosignificant difference between NN and HN in either CF or AWMDregimes. Although the number of tillers in the AWSD regime wasincreased with the increase of N rates, it still showed the leastamong the three irrigation regimes when N rate was the same. Theresults exhibited the same tendency across the two study years(Table 1).
