Abstract Teachers who have right understanding of the nature of science and its teaching approaches would teach science more effectively and enhance students’ scientific literacy. This research is a study of using semi-structured interviews to assess in-service lower primary teachers’ conceptions of the nature of science and their understanding of the instruction for the nature of science. From the study, it was found that teachers’ conception of development of scientific knowledge and conceptions of relationship between science, technology, and society seemed to correlate with teachers’ understanding of teaching approaches
