Variations to this technique include the push
method, which differs from the pull method only
in that the gastrostomy tube is pushed over the
guidewire from the mouth to the abdominal wall,
rather than pulled; and the introducer method.1
The introducer method involves advancing an introducer
over the guidewire through the external
abdominal
wall, dilating the abdominal incision,
and then inserting the gastrostomy tube through
the abdominal wall into the stomach. The internal
bolster for this method is usually a balloon rather
than a solid structure.
