Is there a particular issue that is heavy on your heart these days?
This may sound a bit cliché, but the Gospel is the most important thing to me right now. It is not just the church, not just the cafe, not justice or compassion or some other issue—everything that my wife and I do and everything we seek to be about is informed by the Gospel. The Gospel is magnanimous; it is glorious; it is beautiful; it is compelling. And so I want everything that we do to be about the Gospel. I really feel that, apart from the Gospel, I am nothing. To be honest, as I get older, it becomes even more compelling. As I go through my mid-life reflection, I realize that if Jesus is gracious, I have got about thirty years of life left to live. I think the more you become aware of your own mortality, you realize what the most essential things are. For me, it is the Gospel. Because the Gospel matters to me, because I believe the Gospel is not just a ticket to heaven, because it informs and transforms everything in the cosmos—it is for these reasons that I care about so many things. I care about marriage, about young people, about church, about millennials, about justice, about business, about entrepreneurialism. But it all stems from the Gospel. In the States, people know me as Eugene the entrepreneur; they see me as a justice person, a preacher, someone who talks about leadership. But when I speak, I want it to be about the Gospel.
