Allergic cough has certain characteristics that are common to all allergic diseases such as
Presence of a family history of allergy
History of past and/or concomitant allergic conditions
Sensitivity to allergens that can be elicited by skintesting
Therapeutic response to epinephrine
Periodic nature of the allergic condition
Cough is essentially produced on exposure to allergens and relieved on removing them
The sensitivity can be decreased by immunizing with the ‘concerned’ allergen, if the allergen is an inhalant
