This gene is about1500 bp in length in S. aureus and it is often used in phylogeneticstudies due to its hypervariable regions useful for identificationof bacteria (species or genera). These variable regions result innumerous differences in endonuclease restriction site, which canbe studied via restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)and subsequently analysed by gel electrophoresis (Stomeo et al.,2013).
