Silver nanoparticles interact with NRL films via the
cis-isoprene molecules (Guidelli et al. 2011b). Since
we did not detect the main bands associated with cisisoprene
in the solution released by the NRL–AgNp membranes, the particles attached to the cis-isoprene
molecules probably remain bound to the membranes.
Hence, only AgNP that are not attached to the rubber
molecules, i.e., the excess nanoparticles, are released.
This might explain why the NRL–AgNp_0.1 % does
not liberate considerable amounts of AgNP
