Columbus Chemical Industries (CCI) was a chemical blending and packing facility in Northeast of Madison, Wisconsin’s along the Crawfish River of Columbus town.
CCI was one of41 Wisconsin companies nominated for the prestigious business friend of the environment award, honoring leadership in pollution prevention and environmental innovation and stewardship. CCI got award in 2006 from the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) and developed a disaster recovery plan. The plan was about critical business, functions, responsibilities, procedures, hazardous chemical lists and site drainage plans. But plans failed to account for the hidden obstacles of every Chemical catastrophe for months.
In May 2009 had accident to CCI from fire and subsequent explosions. This situation is a case study of the catastrophe incident because it made the employees dead and had dangerous pollution spread from chemical. After that the catastrophic fire at CCI, the origin and cause investigation was complete. In June CCI was on track to meet their 2009 business expectations. This incident is a testament to how certified, qualified and competent investigators, working together, can rapidly, safely, identifying an area of origin and returning a desperate company to full production and protect employees or offices and people near area from dangerous fire chemical.
