Dear Kim,
Raja Firearms finally confirmed the Thai Customs Department are planning to seize the shipment and apply a penalty equivalent to the CIF Bangkok x 1.3 (import duty) x 1.07 (VAT) plus any additional taxes(?). Although it was an obvious mistake, the Customs Department will strictly follow the law rather than be accused of dereliction of duty or worse.
Since we do not have the CIF Bangkok value of the wrong shipment, kindly issue a quotation/proforma invoice to Raja Firearms for an appropriate value to calculate the penalties.
At this time, we are not sure if Raja will simply have to pay the penalty and then claim the expenses back from Deringer to settle the matter or will also have to go to court to clear their record since Customs related issues fall under the Criminal Code? In any case, we will keep following this case and let you know the next steps.
Best regards, Bruce
