Evidence needed to request for unemployment benefit
- An application form for unemployment benefits (SSO. 2-01/7)
- Identification card with copy
- 1-inch photograph (taken not more than 6 months)
- Employment termination certificate or copy of employment termination form of insured person (SSO 6-09), if there are no SSO 6-09, the insured still have the rights to register for unemployment status.
- A Letter or order from the employer terminating the employment. (if available)
- A copy of the first page of bank savings account showing insured person’ name and account number of 9 banks as follows;

Process and method of claims for benefits
1) Must register as jobseeker at the Employment Office.
2) Submit the unemployment registration form with an identification card and its copy, 1 inch photograph (taken for not more than 6 months).
3) Fill in the application form for unemployment benefits (SSO 2-01/7) with a letter or order from the employer terminating the employment and a copy of the first page of the bank savings account showing the insured person’ name and account number.
4) The Employment officers interview the insured person and verify qualification and working record. 5) The Employment officers select 3 jobs vacancy for insured person to consider.
6) If there is no suitable job, the Employment officers will offer job training for the insured person as needed. However, if the insured persons return to work in an enterprise or reject the job vacancy or neglect the job training offered and did not report to the Employment Office as required, the SSO will immediately cease the cash benefit payable.
7) The officer will record the unemployment status of the insured person in the central database.
8) The SSO officers bring the insured person data to adjudicate according to the qualifying condition.
9) If the qualification is completed, the SSO will transfer the cash benefits through the Insured person’s bank account once a month.
10) If the insured persons are not satisfied with the official order, they can submit appeals within 30 days from the date of receiving that order.
Foreign insured person
The SSO made the guideline of unemployment benefits adjudication for foreign insured person.
Regulation and condition
1. Foreign insured person must pay contribution not less than 6 months within 15 months before being unemployed.
2. Must not be entitled to the old-age benefits (being under 55 years of age.)
3. Being unemployed because of the legal relations between employer and employee due to the contract is terminated.
The consideration of foreign insured person qualification
- Verify fact and evidence of permission to reside legally in Thailand such as visa, the expired date of work permit, a letter of employment termination guaranteed by the authority from the Department of Employment. If the insured person is not allowed to reside in Thailand, the SSO officer will deny paying the unemployment benefits, counting from the visa’s expired date.
- If the foreign insured person refuses the job offered by Bangkok or provincial employment office, the SSO officer can deny paying the unemployment benefits, from the date the employer express an intention to employ the insured person.
- If the foreign insured person meets the condition and be entitled to receive the unemployment benefits but he/she leaves Thailand, the insured person shall be entitled for unemployment benefits. The SSO officer will order payment according to the SSO’s practical guidelines.
Documents required to receive benefits for foreign insured person
- An unemployment benefits application form (SSO. 2-01/7)
- A Visa
- A letter or an order from employer terminating the employment.
- A copy of work permit cancellation order.
- A copy of bank savings account showing the insured person’name and account number, of 9 banks as follows;

1.1Sickness cash benefit
Regulations and Conditions
Cash benefit will be provided for sick leave to receive medical treatment by the physician orders. In a calendar year, if the insured persons are on sick leave
and receive wages from employer during sick leave for 30 days according to the Labour Protection Act of Department of Labour Protection and Welfare
then they still have to take leave according to the physician orders, the SSO will pay income replacement which is call “cash benefit” to insured persons
for 50% of monthly wages not more than 90 days each time but not more than 180 days in one calendar year except for chronic disease that the insured
persons will be paid cash benefits not more than 365 days.
At present, the SSO defined 6 types of chronic disease as follows:
1. Cancer
2. Chronic Renal Failure
3. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
4. Brain injury, injuries of spinal cord and vertebral which followed by paralysis
5. Complication of bone fracture such as infection, delay of healing, deformity or plate and screw operation for treatment.
6. Another diseases or sickness that required continuous medical treatment for more than 180 days. In case when the insured person is unable
to work during treatment, he or she has to submit request for the approval of the Medical Committee.
