To evaluate the role of released surface-associated components inthe anti-GBS activity displayed by Lactobacillus cells, RSC were isolatedfrom L. gasseri BC13, chosen as example of highly active strain.Although L. gasseri BC13 RSC possessed a moderate biosurfactantactivity (diameter of the clear zone on the oil-water surface in the oilspreading assay: 7.5 ± 0.3 mm), no anti-GBS effect was observed.Indeed, GBS viability after 1-h RSC treatment was comparable to thecontrol (data not shown)
