systolic blood pressure were between the rural pleasant and urban unpleasant groups
(p5 0.001) and between rural pleasant and rural unpleasant groups (p 50.05). For changes
in mean blood pressure, there were significant differences between rural pleasant and urban
pleasant (p 50.05) and between rural pleasant and urban unpleasant (p 50.05).
Figure 4 shows the changes in self-esteem in the five groups (as measured before and after
exercise using the Rosenberg questionnaire) with starting self-esteem averaged for all groups.
Self-esteem was significantly improved in all five groups (p 50.001 for rural pleasant;
p5 0.01 for rural unpleasant, urban pleasant and control; p5 0.05 for urban unpleasant).
