empty fruit bunches (EFB) comprise about 25% of
the total oil palm yield.These waste materials contain
significant amount of nutrients, which can be
returned to oil palm plantation as mulches or compost
(Thambirajah et al., 1995; Adlin, 1992; Abdullah et al.,
1990). The bunches can also be used as an alternative fuel to
power generating plants (Prasetsan and Prasetsan, 1996).
Prior to the composting process, EFB need to be cut into
smaller pieces by using a mechanical chopper.
