Bargaining power of suppliers. Implementing, FGP has the effect of decomposing the price a supplier charges the retailer for the product supplied. The prices for transport and the product are now split. Suppliers can no longer negotiate a lower price for supply knowing, for ex, that it would be offset by savings in transport. This has led to more clarity in price negotiations which can be to the increased advantage of the retailer. The market for transport has also changed. The main haulage contractors now negotiate with one retailer compared to a multitude of manufacturers. Again the conclusion must be that the retailer's position has strengthened in relation to their suppliers both for product and transport. However, in return new innovative collaborative transport solutions have emerged to better compete in this new era. One such example is the collaborative partnership of eight haulers, who through a new leading company Jigsaw Solutions, provide a nationwide service across the UK. This enterprise allows for pooled traffic from all eight of the providers to be scheduled across the whole network in the UK. Improved vehicle utilization is achieved as they do not have to be tied to a dedicated depot waiting for the next job and their bargaining power is increased as the consortium is able to negotiate with one voice with the FGP retailer.
