A number of demographic and societal factors point
to an increased demand for HSWs now and in the coming
decades. Given the projected increase in demand
for these workers, preparations need to begin now and
consider long-term strategies. Agencies need to examine
their strengths and weaknesses within the four key
areas of compensation, education and training, quality
assurance, and working conditions. Until the negative
aspects of working as a HSW are addressed, recruitment
and retention will continue to be a challenge [38].
