Grain and soybean prices advanced despite a rising U.S. dollar, which decreases the competitiveness of U.S. crops. Corn prices edged higher by expectations for lower U.S. corn plantings this spring, projections from USDA for tighter-than-expected stockpiles, and data showing greater ethanol production last week. May corn rose 3 cents, or 0.8%, to $3.91 a bushel. Ethanol prices rose 1.5% at the CBOT on Wednesday.
