When identifying
the cause of poor personal hygiene whether educational,
financial or physical, these must be addressed by staff in
a sensitive and empowering manner. Care workers must
appreciate that emphasis on cleanliness varies according
to an individual’s personal preference, cultural and
religious values, and lifestyle choices (Koutoukidis et al,
2012). Moreover, an individual’s standard of personal
hygiene may differ against another’s; therefore, it is
important to promote personal hygiene and not impose
personal hygiene routines on to others
