The assessment and treatment of antenatal anxiety is
complicated, with many factors to be considered before safe,
holistic care can be provided. It is critical to conduct a thorough
assessment, ascertain whether a woman dealt with any
anxiety disorders prior to her pregnancy, and examine what treatment modality, if any, is currently being used. It may be
more important to her and the infant’s health to control severe
anxiety than to try and attempt a pregnancy completely
free of psychotropic medications.
