Wat Pa Luang Ta Bua is known as the Tiger Sanctuary or the Tiger Temple. After gaining a reputation as a refuge for wounded animals, the temple received its first tiger cub in 1999, when villagers found it. Later, several tiger cubs were given to the temple. As of May 2012, there were over 100 tigers living at the temple.
