The photovoltaic solar market is split between two major technologies: crystalline silicon (cSi) and thin film, a category that is further divided by the type of semiconductor that goes into the module, such as amorphous silicon (a-Si) copper, indium, gallium, diselenide (CIGS) and cadmium telluride (CdTe). The obvious difference between thin-film CdTe solar and cSi cells is the thickness and pliability: CdTe cells have a contact surface about 1 micron thick and are bendable, while the contact surface of c-Si cells are 200 microns thick and are solid.
