Pesticides are increasingly finding applications in agriculture to
boost food production. The use of insecticides is believed to be one
of the major factors behind the increase in agricultural productiv-
ity of the 20th century (VanEmden and Pealall, 1996). Carbofuran
(2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethylbenzofuran-7-yl methylcarbamate) is a
carbamate insecticide with a broad spectrum pesticidal activity
killing insects, mites and nematodes on contact or after ingestion
and is used against soil and foliar pests of field, fruit, and vegetable
and forest crops
