The nature of an organization is greatly influenced by the nature of its founders
and its founding (Stinchcombe 1965; Kimberly 1979; Schein 1984; Boeker 1988, 1989).
What an organization knows at its birth will determine what it searches for, what it
experiences, and how it interprets what it encounters. While there seems to be
universal agreement that congenital knowledge strongly influences future learning,
many of the rich details of the matter are yet to be investigated.
