During the winter of 1983, announcements appeared in Jewish publications across the US encouraging enrollment in the program. One advertisement in the Tnuat Aliya [Aliya Movement] publication Aliyon pitched the summer tour as a family experience “for less than what it would cost to send the kids to camp or to go to the country for the summer.” It emphasized that families of all religious backgrounds were welcome, no immigration commitment would be required of participants, and interested parties should contact either their local immigration representative or program headquarters at the Israel Aliya Center.52
