Consistent with previous studies, the results of the present study also indicate that social support is associated with a lower degree of depression (Paukert et al. 2010) and anxiety (Thorell & Svardsudd 1990) and higher levels of QoL (Lim & Zebrack 2004) in family members. Most of the dimensions of social support were associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression. These findings are consistent with findings in other studies regarding the association between social support and emotional distress (Ergh et al. 2002, Paukert et al. 2010). Among the dimensions of social support, AVSI was also associated with a higher degree of QoL. These findings suggest that social support plays a crucial role in the occurrence of anxiety and depression of family members.
