Consequences of pediatric palliative care are related to both children and their families. Child-focused consequences may include improved meaning/quality of life, relief of suffering, respect as the unique individual they are, discovery of new
possibilities, strength to deal with the illness, and strength to deal with closure of life. Family-focused consequences
may include ability for advanced planning, strengthened coping abilities, strength to assist their child in dealing with
their illness and closure of life, respect as parents, and assuage stress (Figure 1).
