sRNA in the pathogenesis of Listeria monocytogenes
The LhrA sRNA of L. monocytogenes acts as a post-transcriptional
negative regulator of chiA (encoding chitinase).
chiA contributes to the pathogenesis of L. monocytogenes
in the mouse model, possibly through the recognition of
glycoproteins or other carbohydrate moieties present in the
infected host. Their expression depends on at least two
regulatory proteins: the central virulence regulator PrfA
and the alternative stress sigma factor sB (Mraheil et al.,
2010, 2011).
