1.1 At the beginning of a colloidal production run, and subsequently on a shiftly basis during the campaign, determine the %NaCMC of the first sample by the titration method (Method 3052). This result is used to verify the conductance method of %NaCMC measurement and to determine if the cell constant needs to be changed.
1.2 Place the clean cell into the slurry sample used for the initial viscosity (Method 3051). Pump the cell several times vigorously to ensure good contact between the electrode and the sample.
1.3 Wait for the reading to stabilize, this normally takes between 3 and 5 minutes. Record the conductance. Calculate the %NaCMC using the appropriate equation below or enter the results into the appropriate record in the LIMS system, the % NaCMC will be automatically calculated using the equations detailed.
