The participant will be able to:
• describe diagnostic evaluation and admission criteria for infants and
children presenting with clinical features of pneumonia
• describe antibiotic strategies to treat community and nosocomial
pneumonias in children
• describe the various operative approaches in the management of
empyema
• list the indications for tube thoracostomy in children presenting
with empyema
• discuss the indication for fibrinolytic therapy and at least one
suggested treatment algorithm
• describe clinical significant and measureable treatment outcomes in
this patient population
