Tubes will drain your new urinary pouch to allow healing. These tubes, called ureteral stents, a malecot catheter and a stoma catheter, will be described later in the section "After Surgery".
The urinary pouch will produce thick mucus at first. This mucus can clog the tubes and build up on the lining of the urinary pouch. Your nurse will teach you how to flush your catheter to clear out the mucus. This will begin during your hospital stay and continue through your follow-up appointment. Your doctor will tell you when to stop the flushing.
