Goyal found that farmers obtained better prices when they had access to a wider range of market information. Farmers’ price increases ranged from 1 percent to 5 percent, with an average of 1.6 percent. The additional farm income from soybeans in Madhya Pradesh was estimated at about US$ 10–20 million per year. This income was almost certainly a transfer
from traders to producers as a result of producers’ greater market knowledge and improved strength in negotiation.
