adopt him as a son.’ And they perceived not (what they were doing).” (Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 9).
This good woman was able to persuade the Pharaoh, the powerful tyrannical King, not to murder Moses and proposed to adopt him. So, she protected the Prophet from being slaughtered and provided him the chance to live in one of the greatest palaces, under the patronage of one of the greatest kings of the age. This allowed Moses to enjoy all conveniences. Through the position and status as the King's son, he was able to assist his people and obtain the latest achievements of science, culture and knowledge of that age.
Another woman mentioned in the Holy Quran was Moses’ sister. After his mother had cast him into the Nile, she told his sister to trace him to find out what happened to him. The Holy Quran first describes the state of Moses’ mother: "And the heart of the mother of Moses became void: she was going almost to disclose his (case), had we not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer."
"And she said to the sister of (Moses): "Trace him". So she (the sister) watched him from a distance and they perceived not". Then the verse goes on: "And we ordained that he refused such at first, until (his sister came up and) said: shall I point out to you the people of a house that will nourish and bring him up for you and take care of him", and in the following verse: "Thus did we restore him to his mother, that her eye might be comforted, that she might not grieve and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true; but most of them do not know." (Surah Al-Qasas, Verses 10- 13)
Moses’ sister wandered around the town, searching for new about her brother. She knew that he was now in Pharaoh's palace and that they were looking for a wet-nurse, but he refused to suckle from any woman who offered him her breast. His sister went to those looking for a woman and she told them that she knew a woman who could perform the task and she took the infant to her mother. Thereafter, Moses’ mother became a wet-nurse for her own child. She was appointed by the Pharaoh to bring up the child; a job for which she got donations including money. Above all, she was the wet-nurse of the King, very close to the assistants and supporters of the King, thanks to the proficient skillful role played by Moses’ sister and Pharaoh's wife.
