Studies of the overall environmental performance of different
slurry management alternatives seem, however, to be lacking. Such
studies would be of great importance to fully understand the
advantages and disadvantages of contrasting options for slurry
management. Moreover, the study of collective forms of slurry
management has not been dealt with in the scientific literature.
Collective slurry transfer plans might represent the most viable
form of managing excess slurry when farmers (a) do not produce
enough excess slurry to install a financially viable individual
treatment station, (b) are situated close to cantons not classified as
ZES where they can apply their excess slurry to crop land.
