Wedding Bells: It is a tradition in Chile to leave small bells on the tables at a wedding reception for guests to ring. When the bells are rung the bride and groom must kiss.
Cake: Perhaps a health risk in other countries, in Chile it is customary to save the bottom layer of the wedding cake for the bride and groom to eat it on their one year anniversary.
Cotillón: The bride and groom leave the reception and return to the dance floor decked out in costume wear (cotillón), where they pass out hats, necklaces, glowsticks, foam fingers, masks, etc. to the rest of the guests.
Engagement Rings: Both the bride and groom receive engagement rings, and wear them on their right hands until the day of the wedding, when they switch them to the left hand.
Wedding Party: There are typically no bridesmaids or groomsmen in Chilean weddings, instead the couple’s parents and godparents stand at the altar with the couple during the ceremony.
