At the same time, Spain traditionally known as a country of emigrants, has experienced an immigration boom. According to Spanish National Statistical Institute (INE) data, foreign population has risen from 0.91% of the total population in 1996 to 12.2% in 2010. Despite this drastic change, and bearing in mind well-known Spanish workplace safety problems,
2this area of study has been little approached by economists in Spain. This research aims to fill in this gap in the literature.
