I have read a blog of my friend. The topic is about a "goal in life".
She got a forwarded mail. It said that we should start thinking of ourselves by 'beginning with the end in mind'. Imagine that if we were 80 years old (now) and could clearly reckon all things occured throughout our lifetime, what would be the most sorrow thing(s) in life we want to fix? She wondered how could that be possible. There are many uncontrollable factors in life that we will never know of in advance.
Here is my view on this.
I view life as a journey. We should have our destination in mind before we start off. We haven't seen the destination yet, so we may not be able to tell what it looks like exactly. But, having it in mind, we can plan our journey. Which direction do we want to go? Which road are we going to take? With the end in mind (of course, with map, compass, and our feet too), we would be confident walking on our journey.
Of course, while we keep walking, we will never know what will come around at the next turn. Don't have to worry. If we get lost, we can find someone to help us find way out. If we are too tired and cannot reach our destination, at least we have come closer to it. If we have bad luck and get hit by a car at the next turn, at least we have tried walking on our own chosen path.
The end in mind is what we use to tell ourselves where we want to go. It does not tell us whether we are successful or not. We should control our destination, do not let the destination control us.
Success is in the journey, not the destination.
