Stainless Steels Stainless steels contain, by definition, a minimum of 10.5
percent chromium. Wrought stainless steels are austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, or
precipitation hardening. Mechanical properties of some wrought stainless steels are
given in Appendix C-8. Cast stainless steels are usually classed as heat-resistant or
corrosion-resistant.
