Dewey stated that “to ‘learn by experience’ is to make a backward and forward connection between what we do to things and what we enjoy or suffer from things in consequence” (p. 164). In these active- passive movements, students acquired knowledge through fruitful experiences (Dewey, 1922, 1938/1998).
