The methanolic extract of the aerial part of B. lupulina was suspended in H2O and defatted with Et2O. The aqueous layer was subjected to column chromatography using a highly porous copolymer of styrene and divinylbenzene, and eluted with H2O, MeOH and Me2CO, successively. The fraction eluted with MeOH was repeatedly subjected to column chromatography using silica gel and octadecylsilyl silica gel, then by preparative HPLC-ODS to afford 18 compounds (1–18).
