This finding reveals that the organic matter
components that are associated with NOS may play a minor role in
the sorption of Cd from aqueous solutions. This result is consistent
with results from a previous study on Cd removal by mollusk shells,
where the authors removed organic matter using a 10% NaOCl
aqueous solution and reported an insignificant, smaller sorption of
Cd than by the raw sorbents (Du et al., 2011).
