In this course we will be looking at both philosophies
and religions as a single broad cultural continuum,
primarily based in Chinese society, but eventually
moving into Korea and Japan.
• Some actual philosophers, such as Confucius (Kongzi)
or Laozi, later became revered in religious practice as
godly figures.
• This was possible in the Chinese setting because
ancestors or teachers could often be venerated or
worshiped like gods.
