Here is a list I have made of 10 really important things about myself.
1) I was adopted at 10 weeks old. My birth parents were not married and did not keep me. As soon as I came out of the birth mother, she abandoned me. I lived in an orphanage my first 10 weeks, and then was adopted by Rosemary and Art Fitzgerald.
2) The mother who raised me was a very good nurse for 60 years, but she had a terrible drinking problem until 1993. She tried to kill herself when I was 10.
3) My father was one of the greatest athletes in the history of Yale University; he starred in baseball, football, and basketball, but could not become a pro because he developed epilepsy -- a brain disease which was the result of a head injury he got in a high school football game. He died in 1992 at 66.
4) I have a brother who's four years older than I am, but he never showed care or love for me, so I don't think of him as a brother.
5) I have been a teacher for over 20 years, and I won a big teaching award at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
6) I have had many of my essays and stories published in various newspapers and some journals, and I worked for a year and a half at the Korea Herald newspaper in Seoul.
7) I recently completed the manuscript - the whole text -- for what will be my first book. It's a collection of stories about my travels to historical sites around east Asia. I have to find an agent and publisher to make it into a book.
8) I have a passion for justice, and can never turn away from someone doing evil. I feel it's my duty to stand up to, to challenge and fight against any kind of bully
or corruption, any evil.
9) I have never lived with a woman, been married, or had kids. I've been independent for a long time, but now I really wanna find the best person to be my sweetheart.
10) I love exploring, leaning, having adventures, experiencing new things by traveling, reading, listening.
