This aspect of SEL includes ability to take others’ perspectives, understand and empathize with their feelings, and appreciate others’ similarities and differences, Children constantly attempt to understand their own and others’ behavior, and emotions convey crucial interpersonal information that enhance such understanding while guiding interaction (Dodge, Laird, Lochman, & Zelli, 2002). Inability to interpret emotions can make the classroom a confusing, overwhelming place (Raver, Garner & Smith-Donald, 2007).
