Oral hygiene habits
It is quite surprising that almost all (96%) of
the mothers had children whose teeth were brushed
everyday, which was reflected in their oral hygiene
habits. This number is higher than the daily toothbrushing
habit score in South Kalimantan province,
which was 94.4 percent.12 It is even higher the than
national score. According to national basic health
research (Riskesdas 2007), 91.1 percent of Indonesian
people aged more than 10 years old were brushing
their teeth on a daily basis.13 However, the score is
relatively similar to that of a study by Gultom M.
(2010) in North Sumatera, which found 96.7 percent
of mothers brushed their children’s teeth daily
