for many people in the world, the question, What's your nationality? has clear answer. They can say, I'm Italian. /come from Italy, or I'm Japanese. come from Japan. However, in some countries. like the U.S., the answer isn't so simple. This is because most Americans (or their families) come from different countries. Today, about 10% of the U.S. population were born outside America. And every year about 700,000 (seven hundred thousand) people come from other countries to live in the U.S. Actually, only 5% of Americans say their family background is American! Here are some other interesting facts: 23% of Americans say their family background is German, 16% say they are Irish, 13% say they are English, 6% have an Italian family background and 5% originally come from Mexico. Do these people also say their nationality is American? Yes! And this gives Americans a different view of nationality.
