The control group undertook sham “target step training” on thesame walkway without perturbations. This involved practice ofwalking while wearing the harness, stepping on the target tiles, with the accompaniment of music with a beat reflecting the desiredcadence. The sham training dose (30 trials in one 40 minutes session)was selected to ensure that interest in the less challenging sham training was maintained. We explained to participants that this trainingprocedure was low does compared to traditional exercise programs. Therefore, we considered that one sham training session was optimalto maintain adherence and not significantly influence participants’awareness of group allocation.
