In public schools, science instruction typically takes place in the classroom for the early grades, while a laboratory space is available for older students. Science instruction was said to take place almost exclusively in the classroom at the private schools. Therefore, public schools were better resourced in terms of having designated laboratory spaces for upper elementary grades. Private school principals reported that they begin science instruction sooner, at the KG1 level with four year olds, as compared to public schools which generally begin science instruction at grade 1.
