4. Prevent and resolve conflicts. Face-to-face communication provides opportunities to observe others’ reactions, adjust behavior and clarify intent. As a result, the discussions can increase the likelihood of positive outcomes in preventing and resolving conflicts. There is a need to exercise caution, however, if consideration is given to using e-mails or other written communications for these purposes. Without verbal and non-verbal cues, there is an increased probability that miscommunication, misinterpretation and misunderstanding may occur.
